Wisdom (372): Imam Ali (a.s.) said to Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari: "O Jabir! The establishment of religion and the world depends on four types of people: the scholar who utilizes his knowledge, the ignorant who does not feel ashamed to seek knowledge, the generous who does not withhold his goodness, and the poor who does not sell his hereafter for this world."
This wisdom is a significant part of Imam Ali's (a.s.) teachings, outlining the fundamental pillars of human society. These statements were made during a time when the Islamic community was solidifying its foundations, and Imam Ali (a.s.) clarified these principles to help people maintain a balance between religion and worldly affairs.
Imam Ali (a.s.) emphasizes the roles of the scholar, the ignorant, the generous, and the poor. The scholar has the responsibility to apply his knowledge in action, contributing to societal progress. The ignorant must not feel ashamed to seek knowledge, as acquiring knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim. The generosity of the wealthy is a sign of societal goodwill, and the advice to the poor not to sell their hereafter for worldly gains serves as an important moral lesson.
Furthermore, Imam Ali (a.s.) discusses the blessings of Allah and explains that when someone has abundant blessings, people's needs will also be linked to him. This implies that whoever fulfills the rights associated with these blessings for the sake of Allah will ensure their permanence, while those who do not will expose them to loss and destruction. This serves as a moral lesson that we should use our resources wisely and fulfill our responsibilities towards others.
