In Wisdom (416), Imam Ali (a.s.) imparts a vital lesson to his son, Hasan (a.s.), regarding the significance of worldly wealth and its proper utilization. This wisdom was articulated during a time when various opinions existed about accumulating and using material possessions. Imam Ali emphasizes that the accumulation of wealth can lead one down two distinct paths: one of obedience to God and the other of disobedience.
He states that if a person spends their wealth in obedience to God, it will become a source of happiness for them. Conversely, if they use that wealth in disobedience to God, it will lead to their misfortune. This serves as an essential lesson that individuals must be cautious in how they utilize their wealth, ensuring it aligns with divine approval.
Another crucial point in this wisdom is that Imam Ali reminds us that the wealth we possess was owned by others before us and will eventually belong to others after us. This notion compels one to reflect on the transient nature of worldly possessions and the importance of their proper use rather than mere accumulation.
Furthermore, Imam Ali advises against burdening oneself for the sake of wealth or prioritizing it over one’s own well-being. Instead, he encourages reliance on God’s mercy and sustenance. This counsel teaches us that the pleasures of this world are temporary, and true success lies in seeking the pleasure of Allah.
