Detailed Explanation — Sermon (50): On the Results of Mixing Truth and Falsehood

In Sermon (50), Imam Ali (a.s.) sheds light on the consequences of mixing truth and falsehood. This sermon was delivered during a time when trials and divisions were intensifying within the Islamic community. Imam (a.s.) clarifies that the onset of trials begins with the following of carnal desires, which are contrary to the principles of religion. During this period, some individuals were attempting to distort the truth of the faith by inventing new commands.

Imam (a.s.) points out that if falsehood were free from the admixture of truth, it would not remain hidden from seekers. Similarly, if truth were to come forward pure and clean from the taint of falsehood, the tongues of those who harbor enmity would be silenced. This teaches us that it is the mixing of truth and falsehood that leads people astray.

He further explains that sometimes truth and falsehood are presented together, making it difficult for people to recognize the truth. At this point, Satan descends upon his followers, and only those who have been granted divine favor remain safe. This is an important lesson that we should not follow our desires and always seek the truth.

In this sermon, Imam (a.s.) also reminds us that we need Allah's assistance to recognize the truth. If we turn to Allah and seek the truth, we can remain safe from trials. This sermon teaches us that we must protect our faith and never allow ourselves to be mixed up in falsehood.
