Detailed Explanation — Letter (71): In the name of Munzar Ibn Jaru Abdi, while he betrayed some of the things that you had entrusted to him.

In Letter 71, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) addresses Munzar Ibn Jaru Abdi regarding his betrayal of certain responsibilities entrusted to him. This letter is set during the period of Imam Ali's caliphate when he appointed representatives in various regions to manage public affairs. In this letter, the Imam condemns Munzar's betrayal and irresponsibility.

The letter begins with the Imam expressing that he was deceived by the good character of Munzar’s father, leading him to trust Munzar. This highlights an important point that the Imam considered human virtues in his judgment. However, upon receiving negative reports about Munzar, he decided to reassess the situation. This teaches us that we should not make judgments based solely on outward appearances but rather on actions and character.

Imam Ali (peace be upon him) clearly states that if Munzar continues to follow his selfish desires and does not prepare for the hereafter, he is not only distancing himself from his faith but also maintaining ties with his relatives at the expense of his religion. This serves as a crucial lesson that one should not compromise their faith for worldly benefits. The Imam further emphasizes that if these reports are true, Munzar is less worthy than the camel of his family, which is a harsh criticism.

Another significant aspect of this letter is the Imam's identification of Munzar's arrogance and self-importance. This indicates that a person's moral state is more important than their status. The Imam makes it clear that trust cannot be placed in someone who follows their desires. At the end of the letter, the Imam invites Munzar to recognize his mistakes and come to him immediately. This invitation to reform serves as an example that acknowledging one's errors and striving for correction is always possible.
