In Wisdom (116), Imam Ali (a.s.) highlights a profound truth about human nature and divine wisdom. This saying indicates that sometimes Allah grants blessings to His servants, but this does not necessarily mean that He desires their well-being. Instead, it can serve as a test to see how the individual utilizes these blessings.
Historically, this wisdom was articulated during a time when Imam Ali (a.s.) sought to enlighten people about their misconceptions. Many individuals interpret Allah's mercy as a sign of success, yet such success is not always beneficial. Often, these blessings can lead a person into negligence, causing them to overlook the reality of their actions.
Imam (a.s.) also points out that some people are deceived by Allah's concealment of their sins. When Allah veils someone's wrongdoings, they may mistakenly believe they are safe, while in reality, this is a significant trial. This implies that Allah's granting of respite can sometimes be the greatest test for an individual since they fail to recognize their own faults.
From this wisdom, we learn that we should express gratitude for Allah's blessings and use them wisely. We must not forget that Allah's concealment of our sins does not endorse our wrongdoings. Instead, we should strive for self-improvement and turn towards Allah. This wisdom also reminds us that Allah's trials often highlight our weaknesses, and we should face them with courage.
