Wisdom (175): If you feel terror from something, leap into it, for the anxiety of avoiding it is worse than the harm you fear.
This wisdom reflects the unparalleled insight of Imam Ali (a.s.). Historically, these sayings emerged during a time when Imam Ali was encouraging Muslims to confront various challenges and difficulties. This period coincided with the early days of his caliphate when the Islamic society faced numerous internal and external threats.
The central theme of this wisdom is that confronting fear is better than living in fear. Imam Ali (a.s.) teaches us that when we are afraid of something, we should face it head-on. This is a powerful message that encourages us to confront our weaknesses and fears rather than avoid them.
Key phrases in this wisdom, such as "the anxiety of avoiding it," highlight that living in fear can be a torment in itself. This psychological state can create further complications in a person's life. In contrast, if we confront our fears, we can mitigate their effects on us.
Morally and spiritually, this wisdom teaches us the importance of having the courage to face our fears. It also reminds us that facing life's challenges is where our strength and growth lie. Practically, when we encounter a challenge, we should muster the courage to leap into it, as this is the path that leads us to success.
