Sermon (27): To Those Who Are Aroused for Jihad
In Sermon (27), Imam Ali (a.s.) emphasizes the significance of jihad and the negligence of the Muslim community. This sermon was delivered at a time when the Islamic society was facing various threats, and enemies of Islam had begun to attack Muslim territories. Imam describes jihad as one of the gates of Paradise opened for Allah's special friends. It is not only a duty but also a garment that provides a person with piety and divine protection.
The Imam makes it clear that those who abandon jihad are clothed in humiliation by Allah. This is a powerful point, highlighting that neglecting jihad affects a person's spiritual state, leading to disgrace and rejection. He reminds the Muslims that when they turn away from jihad, a veil of heedlessness covers their hearts, causing them to lose sight of the truth.
The Imam calls upon his community to engage in jihad and points out their weaknesses. He states that if they feel fear during times of war, it is not an excuse, as fighting in the path of Allah is a responsibility for every Muslim. He stresses that when the enemy enters their homes, they must be prepared for jihad.
The lessons from this sermon teach us that we must understand our responsibilities and be ready to engage in jihad for the sake of Allah. It also reminds us that if we shy away from jihad, we will face humiliation and disgrace. We need to overcome our weaknesses and make jihad a part of our lives.
