Sermon Sermon : 124

Sermon (124): When Some People Became Upset at His Principle of Equality and Justice in Distribution of Wealth, He Said

Do you want to impose on me that I should oppress and wrong the people over whom I am the ruler to gain the help of (some people)? Then by Allah, as long as the world's story continues, and some stars keep inclining toward other stars, I will not even come near this thing. Even if it were my own wealth, I would still divide it equally among all. What to say of this being Allah's wealth. Look, giving without any right is excess and wastefulness, and it elevates its doer in the world but lowers him in the Hereafter, and increases honor among people, but degrades him to Allah. Whoever gives wealth without entitlement or to unworthy individuals, their friendship and love will also go to others' share, and if one day his feet slip (i.e., poverty and destitution surround him) and he becomes in need of their help, they will prove to be very bad companions and base friends for him.
