Wisdom (279): It has been stated that the ornaments of the Kaaba and their abundance were mentioned in front of Umar Ibn Khattab, leading to a discussion on whether these ornaments should be taken and spent on the Muslim army instead. Some questioned the necessity of these ornaments for the Kaaba. Umar, contemplating this, sought the advice of Amirul Momineen (peace be upon him).
Amirul Momineen explained that when the Holy Qur'an was revealed, there were four types of property: personal property of Muslims, booty to be divided among rightful claimants, khums with specific expenditures, and zakat and alms. The ornaments of the Kaaba were also present during this time, but Allah had allowed them to remain as they were, indicating their significance. Umar, upon hearing this, acknowledged that without the guidance of Ali, they might have wrongly disposed of the jewels.
This wisdom teaches us that when recommended acts (mustahabbat) obstruct obligatory acts (farā'id), they should be set aside. It emphasizes the importance of prioritizing our obligations over supererogatory actions. Whenever we are drawn towards something, we must consider whether it obstructs our fundamental duties.
Moreover, this wisdom highlights that certain things are designated for Allah's pleasure, such as the ornaments of the Kaaba. We should appreciate and understand the significance of these items. Maintaining a balance in our actions is crucial for comprehending the essence of our faith and fulfilling our responsibilities accordingly.
