Sermon Sermon : 26

Sermon (26): The World's Turning Away After the Prophet and the Pact of Mu'awiyah and 'Amr ibn al-'As

Allah, Blessed and Exalted, sent Muhammad (ﷺ) as a warner to all worlds and as a trustee of His revelation. O group of Arabs, at that time you were on the worst religion and in the worst homes. You dwelt among rough stones and poisonous snakes. You drank muddy water and ate stolen and forbidden food. You shed each other's blood and severed ties of kinship. Graves were among you and sins clung to you. A part of this sermon is: I raised my gaze and looked, and I found no helper or supporter for myself except my Ahl al-Bayt. I was reluctant to throw them into the mouth of death. There was dust in my eyes, but I closed them; there were nooses in my throat, but I swallowed the draughts of grief and anger; and despite the choking, I endured circumstances more bitter than colocynth. Another part of this sermon is: He did not pledge allegiance to Mu'awiyah until he extracted from him the condition that he would pay the price of this allegiance—that the hands of the one who pledged would not be blessed with victory and success, and the pact of the buyer would be marked with humiliation and disgrace. (Now the time has come) Prepare yourselves for war and make ready its equipment. Its flames have flared up and its tongues are rising high. Put on the garment of patience, for through it there is greater hope of victory and success.
