Sermon (54): On the Crowd Pledging Allegiance at Your Hand
They rushed toward me in such an unrestrained manner, like camels rushing over each other on the day of drinking water, whose owners have untied their feet and left them free. Until I began to think that either they would kill me, or someone among them would commit murder in front of me. I examined this matter from all sides, and I saw no option except war, or that I should deny the commands brought by Muhammad (peace be upon him). But bearing the hardships of war seemed easier to me than bearing the hardships of the hereafter, and the destructions of this world seemed easier to me than the destructions of the hereafter.
