Sermon (46): When He Intended to Depart for Syria, He Said These Words
O Allah! I seek refuge from the hardship of travel, the grief of return, and the sight of the misfortune of family and wealth. O Allah! You are the companion in travel and the protector of children. No one can unite travel and residence except You, for whoever is left behind cannot be a companion, and whoever is taken along cannot be left behind. The commentator notes that the initial part of this speech is transmitted from the Messenger. The Commander of the Faithful completed it in the most excellent manner by adding the most eloquent phrases at its end, and that addition is from (no one can unite travel and residence except You) to the end of the speech.
