Sermon (57): On Muawiyah
He said to his companions: Soon after me, a person will be imposed upon you whose field is wide and whose belly is large. Whatever he finds, he will swallow. And whatever he does not find, he will keep searching for it. (It would be better if) you kill him. But it is known that you will never kill him. He will command you to speak ill of me and express aversion to me. As for speaking ill, you may speak ill of me. For this is a cause of purity for me and a means of salvation for you (from enemies). But do not adopt (heartfelt) aversion, for I was born on the (religion of) nature and am a predecessor in faith and migration.
