Sermon Sermon : 22

Sermon (22): To Those Who Accused Him Regarding the Killing of ‘Uthman

He explains that Satan has stirred up his faction and gathered his armies so that oppression can reach its limit and falsehood be restored to its former place. By Allah, he says, they have not brought a true charge against him nor dealt justly between themselves and him. They demand from him a right they themselves abandoned and seek compensation for a blood they themselves shed. If he shared in it, they share its blame; if they alone committed it and he did not, only they deserve its punishment. The very argument they make against him turns back upon them. They wish to drink from a mother whose milk has dried and to revive a dead innovation. He is astonished that they call him to duel and battle, when he has never been cowed by war or frightened by swordplay. He stands upon certainty from his Lord and has no doubt about the truth of his religion.
