Sermon (41): On Censuring Treachery
Fulfilling covenants and truthfulness always go together, and in my knowledge there is no shield greater for protection than this. Whoever knows the reality of his return (to Allah) never commits treachery. But our age is such that most people have taken treachery and deceit as intelligence and cleverness, and the ignorant have attributed their (schemes) to good planning. May Allah destroy them—what has happened to them? The person who has seen the ups and downs of time and is aware of its twists and turns sometimes sees a scheme for himself, but Allah's commands and prohibitions stand blocking his path. So he abandons that trick and scheme despite seeing it with his own eyes and having control over it. And whoever has no religious feeling blocking his path takes advantage of that opportunity.
