Sermon Sermon : 43

Sermon (43): When He Sent Jarir ibn 'Abdullah al-Bajali to Mu'awiyah and His Companions Advised War Preparation

On this he said: My being ready and prepared for war while Jarir is still there would be closing the door of Syria, and if the people there intend to pledge allegiance, it would be preventing them from that good intention. I have indeed set a time for Jarir. After that he will wait. So whether he becomes involved with them in closeness or (deliberately) turns away, the correct opinion requires patience and waiting. So remain for now. However, I do not consider it bad for you to (secretly) continue preparing the equipment of war. I have examined this matter well and looked at it from inside and outside. I see no alternative to war, or I would deny the news given by the Messenger (ﷺ). The truth is that (before me) there was a ruler over this community who spread innovations in religion and gave people the opportunity to open their tongues. (At first) people heard and said it to him, then they became angry with him, and finally changed the entire structure.
