Sermon Sermon : 64

Sermon (64): On Teaching Warfare at Siffin

During the days of Siffin, he used to say to his companions: O group of Muslims! Make fear of God your banner. Wrap yourselves in the cloak of tranquility and dignity. And clench your teeth. From this, swords bounce off heads. Complete the armor (i.e., wear the helmet along with it) and shake the swords well in their sheaths before drawing them. Keep looking at the enemy with sidelong glances and strike with spears from right and left (both sides), and keep the enemy at the barrier of swords. And advance your feet along with the swords. And be certain that you are face to face with Allah, and with the cousin of the Messenger. Attack repeatedly and be ashamed of fleeing. For this is a cause of disgrace and shame for generations, and the fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection. Give your lives to Allah with joy and advance toward death with a calm pace, and keep that large group (of Syrians) and the tent pulled by ropes in your sight, and attack its center. For Satan is hiding in one of its corners, who has extended his hand for attack on one side, and has withdrawn his foot for fleeing on the other. You remain firm on your resolve with strength. Until truth appears like the light of dawn. (As a result) you will be victorious, and God is with you. He will not let your deeds go to waste.
