Sermon (105): When His Army's Feet Were Uprooted in the Battle of Siffin and Then They Stood Firm Again, He Said
I saw you fleeing and scattered from the ranks (when) a few vile types of ruffians and the evil ones of Syria had surrounded you. Although you are the chiefs and leaders of the brave nobles of the Arabs (in the nation), the high-nosed and the top ones. The sounds of distress coming from my chest can only be suppressed when I see that finally, just as they have surrounded you, you have also taken them in your grip, and just as they have uprooted your feet, you have also uprooted their feet from their places. Killing them with a shower of arrows and striking such blows with spears that their front ranks climb over the back ranks. Like driven thirsty camels that have been thrown away from their pools and separated from their watering places.
