Sermon Sermon : 114

Sermon (114): On the Oppressions of Hajjaj ibn Yusuf al-Thaqafi

Allah sent him as a caller to truth and a witness for creation. So he delivered his Lord's messages. He showed no laziness nor negligence in it, and fought Allah's enemies in His path, in which he showed no weakness, nor made excuses. He is the imam of the God-conscious and the vision for those who seek guidance (in their eyes). A part of this sermon is: The things that have been wrapped in the veil of the unseen from you, if you also knew them as I know them, you would certainly go out to open fields, weeping over your evil deeds and mourning your selves, and leaving your wealth and possessions without any guardian and without any caretaker, and every person would be concerned only with his own self, not turning to anyone else. But you forgot what was reminded to you, and you forgot what you were warned about, and you became fearless of the things you were warned about. Thus your thoughts went astray, and all your matters became confused. I wish that Allah would place separation between me and you, and join me with those people who are more deserving of me than you. By Allah! They are such people whose thoughts were blessed and whose intellects were solid. They were open speakers of truth and abandoners of rebellion and revolt. They stepped forward and took to Allah's path, and ran on the straight path (without obstacle). So they obtained the eternal Hereafter and excellent and pure blessings. You should know that a boy from Banu Thaqif will gain control over you. He will be tall, and will walk with a bent. He will graze all your pastures, and will melt your fat (even). Yes, O Abu Duhah, something else! The commentator says: That 'wadhah' means 'khunfasa' (hunchback). The Imam indicated Hajjaj (ibn Yusuf al-Thaqafi) with his saying. And there is an incident related to him about khunfasa, which is not the place to mention here.
