Sermon (127): In Which He Mentioned Scales and Measures

O servants of Allah! You and your hopes tied to this world are guests of a fixed term and such debtors from whom payment is being demanded. Life is decreasing, and deeds are being preserved. Many who run about are wasting their effort, and many who remain engaged in striving are going into loss. You are in such a time in which the steps of goodness are retreating, and evil is advancing, and Satan's greed in destroying people is becoming intense. So this is that time when its (tricks') equipment has become strong, and its conspiracies are spreading, and its prey are being caught easily. Wherever you look at people, you will see that on one side someone is bearing poverty and destitution, and on the other side a wealthy person is changing blessings with ingratitude, and someone is a miser who is increasing wealth by suppressing Allah's right, and someone is rebellious who has closed his ears to advice and counsel. Where are your good and righteous people, and where are your high-spirited and noble-natured people? Where are those who avoid (deception and fraud) in business and remain pure and clean in their ways? Have they all not passed away from this low and life-bittering fast-flowing world, and have you not remained in such base and low people after them, whose status you consider low and base, and avoiding their mention, you do not even want to open your lips in their criticism? To Allah we belong and to Him we return. Corruption has emerged, and the era of evil is such that there are no signs of change, and there is no preventer who himself also refrains. Is the intention to live in Allah's neighborhood in Paradise and become His close friend with these deeds? Alas! Paradise cannot be taken from Allah by deceiving Him, and His satisfactions cannot be obtained without obeying Him. May Allah curse those people who command others to do good and themselves abandon it, and prevent others from evil things and themselves also act on them.
