Sermon (30): On Revealing the Truth About 'Uthman's Killing
If I had ordered his killing, I would have been his killer, and if I had prevented (others from) killing him, I would have been his helper and supporter (I remained completely neutral). But the situation was such that those who helped and supported him do not think that we are better than those who did not help them, and those who withdrew their help from them do not think that those who helped them are better and superior to us. I will tell you the truth of the matter, and it is that they showed favouritism (toward their relatives), and they did it badly, and you panicked, and you panicked badly. Between those who show undue favouritism and those who panic, Allah is the true judge.
