Sermon (203): When Talha and Zubair said that why we are not consulted, he said
After pledging allegiance to Hazrat, Talha and Zubair complained to him that why they were not consulted (in matters of government) and why they were not asked for help, then Hazrat said.
Your thoughts have become distorted on a small matter and you have left many things behind. Can you tell me whether you had a right in something and I suppressed it, or something came to your share and I refused it, or a Muslim presented a claim before me and I was incapable of deciding it, or I was ignorant of his command, or I erred in the right way. By God! I have never had the need and desire of caliphate and government for myself. It was you people who invited me to it and persuaded me to it. So when it reached me, I kept in view the book of Allah and the plan of action that it presented to us and the way that it ordered us to decide. I went according to that and followed the Sunnah of the Prophet, and I never needed to ask you for an opinion or anyone else but you, but what you have mentioned that I have issued an equal distribution (of the treasury) is not the order of my opinion and my desire is not the decision of my soul, but it is the fixed thing that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, brought, which is in front of me and in front of you, so what God has limited and Order it definitely. I don't need to get your opinion on this. By God, you and no one else has the right to complain in this matter. May God keep our hearts and yours on the truth and grant us and you patience.
(Then he said) May God have mercy on the person who, if he sees the truth, helps him, and if he sees falsehood, rejects him, and the owner of the truth is sure of the truth.
