Sermon (61): On the Transience of the World
You should know that the world is such a house that the means of protection from its (consequences) can only be prepared while living in it, for salvation cannot be attained from any work done solely for this world. People have been put to trial in this world. Whatever people have acquired from this world for the sake of this world will be separated from them, and they will be held accountable for it. And whatever has been earned from this world for the hereafter, they will receive it when they reach there and will remain in it. The world, in the view of the wise, is a growing shadow that was seen as expanded and spread out, but suddenly it shrunk and contracted.
